John Wright and Mark Thomson will co-direct Echuca-Moama Theatre Company's production of Phantom of the Opera.

MORE than 40 people will audition for Echuca-Moama’s highly anticipated production of Phantom of the Opera this weekend.

Echuca-Moama Theatre Company treasurer and show co-director Mark Thomson said although some people had auditioned early, most would try out on Friday and Saturday.

‘‘We are all looking forward to the audition weekend coming up to see what amazing talent we can discover,’’ he said.

He said anyone who hadn’t booked a time, but were still interested in auditioning could contact EMTC secretary Lesley Summers on 0419260902.

EMTC is also looking for ballet dancers who are en pointe.

Mr Thomson said EMTC had spent months preparing for the show and had held a number of meetings with the Paramount Theatre about planning for the production.

‘‘We want it to be an amazing production with sets, sound, lighting, effects, etc,’’ he said.

‘‘We have also had meetings with Campaspe Shire and Echuca-Moama Tourism about how they can assist with making this an event for the region.

‘‘We have had a number of trips to three theatre companies in Melbourne that have previously taken on Phantom and we have purchased some sets, hiring some amazing costumes and sets that they used.

‘‘The show should be visually spectacular and we are currently working on a set design that will be innovative and interesting.’’

Performances will be held from May 25 to June 9, 2018.
