Drive-in theatre drives off with a profit

By Riverine Herald

MORE than 200 people in 106 cars drove into the Wharparilla Drive-in at the Wharparilla Recreation Reserve on Australia Day to sit back and watch three films.

Organiser Shaun Blanchford said its success had almost guaranteed it would make a comeback next Australia Day.

‘‘We raised about $4600 which meant we made a small profit,’’ he said.

‘‘This was really a test. It went from 6pm-11pm. The weather was always out biggest issue but it wasn’t too hot or too cold.

‘‘We had a middle age crowd and a mix of cars and all the feedback we’ve had has been very good.

‘‘It had that nostalgic feel to it. It was just really great.’’

Bamawm Extension CFA, Bamawm Extension Pony Club, 1st Echuca Scouts and the hot rod and custom club were all part of the night which featured three films — Kenny, Daddy’s Home and Daddy’s Home 2.
