Get down to Girgarre for this jamming gig

By Riverine Herald

FOR all the musically inclined or wannabe artists, Saturday is an ideal opportunity to put your talents into practice.

Welcoming people of all ages and stages, Jigarre Jammin’ is a monthly event to see what talent is in the region.

It started when a small bunch of players found the annual Girgarre Moosic Muster was not enough and decided they needed music sessions to keep them going from month to month.

Organiser Irene Labbett said she loved seeing how the monthly event brought people together.

‘‘It’s an all-inclusive, friendly environment,’’ she said.

‘‘Anyone who’s ever, or ever wanted to, pick up a guitar, banjo or ukulele is welcome to come along. If you’ve always wanted someone to play along with, this is a great place to find them.’’

Over the years the small community has drastically grown with up to 70 musically-minded folk meeting in the little town for up to five hours of playing, singing, sharing knowledge and catching up.

From 10am there will be plenty of jamming sessions to cater for musician lovers of almost every genre and there’s plenty of opportunities to meet other musicians throughout the day.

If you’ve ever wanted to try your hand at a new instrument there is a free instrument bank including guitars, mandolins, ukuleles and even a banjo for you to use.

The aim of the event is to get people together and share their love of music. If you’ve been hanging out for somewhere and someone to play along with, then Jigarre Jammin’ is perfect.

Singers, musicians and anyone who is eager to have a go is welcome to Jigarre Jammin’. Almost every need is catered for including a data projector for people to share their lyrics and chords with everyone.

Entry is a $2 donation and a small plate of prepared afternoon tea to share. It is also recommended you bring your own lunch.

Jigarre Jammin’ meets on the fourth Saturday of every month and will meet next week at the Girgarre Town Hall on Winter Road.

The day runs from 10.30am-4pm. For information, contact Irene Labbett on 58521995 or visit girgarre.com.au/jigarre-jammin
