Police, Parks are co-opted by council

By Riverine Herald

CAMPASPE Shire Council has appointed members of Victoria police and Parks Victoria officers to enforce council’s Local Law.

Without it they would not be able to enforce the Local Law or issue council infringement notices.

Police and Parks Victoria are authorised to enforce the Local Law provisions relating to behaviour, consumption of alcohol in public places and camping areas.

This is in addition to council’s traffic and or local law staff. Council said the authorisation was required to be reviewed as a result of a number of staff changes.

All officers who have left their organisation or have transferred elsewhere automatically lose the authorisation.
