And the Georgy goes to Echuca songstress Drew Walker

By Ivy Jensen

ECHUCA songstress Drew Walker finally has a Georgy after multiple nominations.

The 21-year-old took out the best female singer category, along with Isabella Polimeni of Seymour Performers Workshop, at the 46th annual Georgy Awards in Shepparton on Saturday night.

The award recognised Drew's outstanding singing performance as Mary in Shepparton Theatre Arts Group’s production of Jesus Christ Superstar last year.

“I'm so grateful to have won one and especially winning this particular category,” she said.

The singer has had about seven Georgy nominations over the years, starting eight years ago when she was in the running for best female junior performance and best female junior singing for her leading role in EMTC's 2012 junior production of Peter Pan.

The former X-Factor finalist said she was taking a break from local theatre and pursuing her own recording artist journey.

“I'm not sure about what’s ahead but that’s music for you,” she said.

Other local Georgy winners included Echuca teenagers Ella Carriero and Emily Polidano, who won judges awards for their performances in Echuca-Moama Theatre Company's 2019 production of Back to the ‘80s.

Dillmac Entertainment's student production team also won a judges award for excellence for its work on Godspell last year.
