Echuca’s Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch cancelled

THIS year's Biggest Ever Blokes Lunch at Echuca Racing Club has been cancelled.

The annual fundraising event organised by Horizon Committee was supposed to take place in October but has been called off due to coronavirus restrictions.

Horizon Committee president Garet Stobaus said despite the easing of restrictions, "it appears social distancing will be with us for the foreseeable future''.

“Under these circumstances the lunch wouldn’t be viable and the organising committee have made the decision to cancel the event,” Mr Stobaus said.

“It’s an unfortunate set of circumstances in very difficult times.”

The lunch raises money to fund a prostate cancer specialist nurse at Echuca Regional Health.

Mr Stobaus said the decision would not impact the Horizon Committee's financial commitments.

“Horizon has a diverse income stream and the financial resources to continue its commitments to Echuca Regional Health and Prostate Cancer Foundation Australia,” he said.

“We appreciate the past support from everyone involved and look forward to a bigger and better event next year.”

Next year's event has been tentatively scheduled for Friday, October 8 and will again support Echuca Regional Health.

In the meantime, the Horizon Committee is preparing for next February's Great Murray River Postie Bike Adventure.

“Thankfully, social distancing won't affect the postie ride and entries are already coming in,” Mr Stobaus said.
